I've always loved books. Here I am reading one when I was about five. I can see that it's a book of nursery rhymes and I think I'm on the rhyme about The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe. I loved stories when I was small, but I didn't know then that I was going to write them. Like the Old Woman, I didn't know what I was going to do!
My first career was in acting and I worked on lots of plays especially written for children. Spending so much time pretending to be other people has definitely made it easier for me to write my own characters and stories. My second career was being a mum – that one's still going on actually. Living with my two daughters, reading to them and watching them grow up, has helped turn me into the writer I am now.
